Genesee's next seasonal? Black Cherry Vanilla Kellerbier
Genny's latest seasonal is designed to bridge the gap between summer and fall
Folks at the Genesee Brewery believe they have come up with the perfect beer to bridge the gap between summer and fall. And in turn, coined a new term, “sum-all,” that time between August and October that we all experience in upstate New York.
The brewery announced Thursday that its latest seasonal fruited release will be the Black Cherry Vanilla Kellerbier. It is trumpeting the release as the first “sum-all seasonal beer.” And it will hit the western New York market (and beyond) in the coming days.
The beer will be available in 12 packs of 12-ounce cans and select draft accounts.
I am certainly intrigued by this one and will reserve thoughts and judgments until I am able to dive in. But immediately, I am expecting some Cherry Coke vibes.
And this is certainly a curveball from Genny. (We were seeing clues about the potential of a Cucumber Kolsch. I’m still pulling for that one. And the brewery even cooked up a limited Cucumber Watermelon Kolsch for the recent Swiftwater x Mortalis Luau beer fest.)
The brewery’s brand team said BCV is replacing previous fall release Cran Orange Kellerbier, at least for this year. That doesn’t mean the Cran Orange is permanently retired, however. Genny promises to listen to consumers and states the Cran Orange could return in the future.
Here are the brand team-provided tasting notes: “It showcases the tart sweetness of black cherry and a hint of smooth vanilla, all balanced in a crisp, unfiltered kellerbier that’s refreshing enough to drink in the heat.”
According to Genny brand manager Tiffany Benning, “Sum-all is all about celebrating the best of both seasons and embracing the juxtaposition this time of year offers. Fall beer in August? Makes sense to Genesee! Flannel swim trunks? You got it. Maple hot dogs? Well, you decide… Genesee is all about giving the people what they want. And while we don’t control the weather or the thermostat, Genesee can offer liquid relief, no matter the season!”
The brewery is also encouraging folks to share their “sum-all” experiences by utilizing the #GennySumAll hashtag on social media. It also said limited BCV will be available at the Genesee Brew house.
A final note: It’s pretty wild to think I’ve been working on this independent publication for over two years now. In that time, I’ve published 200 newsletters, highlighted some of my favorite people in the industry, curated two beers festivals (that featured 150 participants and 4,600 attendees), and continued to break all the biggest news in the region (closures, consolidations, openings, etc.).
The Cleveland Prost remains the preeminent source for regional beer news. If you own a brewery, bar, or beer-adjacent business, this is the best place to reach the nerds you wanna be in front of. So I remain open to sponsorships, advertisements, and sponsored content. Feel free to reach out to me at clevelandprost@gmail.com for more. And more than anything, thanks for all the support. None of this would be possible without the devoted (and thirsty) audience.
